One common question about artificial turf is: can it be removed and reused? The answer to that question is, yes. Artificial turf from a ball field or a backyard can in fact be removed and repurposed elsewhere.
Taking your lawn with you
You love your lawn, but you are moving from your current home to a new one. Can you take your lawn with you? Again, yes. But if you want to do this, there are a number of things you will need to consider.
First of all, how much turf do you have in relation to the new lawn or recreation area at your new home? Odd shapes, and different sizes can pose a challenge when trying to reuse your old turf; you may not have enough or you may need to drastically change shapes. All things which could require patching and additional work which will add to the cost of moving it.
You are also going to want a professional installer to handle the move and reinstallation for you. In addition to the size and shape issues, an older piece of turf may need some extra work to get it looking its best and the underlay materials will still be an important consideration at the new location. All in all, especially if your turf is older, you might want to weigh the pros and cons of tearing that lawn up and having it moved. It may or may not be the most cost-effective measure for you.
One more consideration, if you do take that lawn, be prepared to explain that big empty space to the new homeowner! An upfront disclosure pre-sale is probably a good idea.
Recycling and repurposing old artificial turf
When repurposing used artificial turf, it is cleaned, disinfected, and repaired. Once repaired, it’s ready for use as another field, dog run, driving rage, or rooftop green area – there are many options available. Because the turf is used, it’s available at nicer price than all new artificial turf as well as a good way to further protect the environment.
Recycling helps us get to the point where we can make used turf available to our customers. Recycling keeps the non-biodegradable material out of the land fills so it is a win-win for all.
